HUGH GILES III
Principal

“It’s a fine day in Cougar Country!” The students, staff and faculty hear me greet them with this saying each day during the announcements. It truly is a great day to be a Long Cane Cougar. We have over 1,000 students who are happy, actively engaged and continually setting records for academic achievement. We have a variety of sports teams, clubs and extracurricular activities that provide every student an opportunity for greater school involvement. We have families and community members who support Long Cane in so many ways.

Our motto is “Standard of Excellence.” We live this statement every day. Our expectations for students are high and they deliver. Our teachers are highly competitive and strive to have our students performing at their highest potential. Additionally, we consistently have championship teams, winning programs and individual students who achieve individual accolades. In short, Long Cane students are winners!

We believe middle school students need to enjoy school and have school spirit to engage themselves in the educational process. If you want to see middle school students having fun, come on down to Burgerpalooza, our monthly cookout for the entire school, and grab a burger with us. Also, we believe that incentives promote students improving themselves. Simply put, carrots are often better than sticks. We have a PBS (Positive Behavior Support) program that keeps discipline incidents down. We also have Cougar Pizza Den, which rewards students for improved grades, behavior and attendance.

We are glad that you are a part of the Long Cane family. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call me. If you are in the neighborhood, drop by the school and say, ”Hello!”

Respectfully,

Chip Giles
Principal
