01/19/16: Hollis Hand Students Connect Current Events to Learning

If I were President

After reading the book, If I Were President by Catherine Stier, students at Hollis Hand Elementary discussed things they would do if they became President of the United States. Students shared their ideas with their peers through words and graphics on paper. For instance, 5th grader, Mayley Hester wrote, "I would give food and water to the homeless," while her classmate Kristiyounna Sims wrote, "I would be fair and make sure the country was good."

The ideas continued to flow as 3rd grader, Hugh Kersey, wrote, "I would build an indoor golf course in the White House," and Amelia Rockwell, also in the 3rd grade, wrote, "I would care for the poor." Third grade student Daniels Durand wrote, "I would improve our parks." Connecting current events to classroom activities makes learning relevant for TCSS students.
