Recently, athletic teams throughout the southeast clamored to fill out essays and complete videos for POWERADE’s ‘Power Through’ contest. One of those essays, submitted by Callaway High School sophomore, Cheyenne Booker, was chosen as tops. Now, the school’s volleyball team has been awarded a $2,000 scholarship to use so they can ‘power through’ the season.
Teams can use the $2,000 award for any number of options to enhance their program including transportation costs, improving facilities, etc. According to Booker’s essay, the volleyball team wishes to use the funds to purchase new team jerseys, new training equipment, and pay for training sessions with the local college’s volleyball coach. She also said this scholarship is a great opportunity for the team to be rewarded for doing a good job.
