The Governor’s Office of Student Achievement and the Georgia Department of Education recognized five Troup County Schools for progress in student achievement during the 2009-2010 school year as part of the Single Statewide Accountability System.
Ethel Kight Magnet School and Hollis Hand Elementary School won platinum awards for greatest gains in student The awards are based on student performance on the Criterion-Reference Competency Test (CRCT) and Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) status. Platinum award-winning schools must make AYP for at least three consecutive years, have at least 35 percent of students exceed standards on the CRCT, and must be in the 98th percentile of greatest gains among schools in the state. Gold award-winning schools must make AYP for at least two consecutive years, have at least 30 percent of students exceed standards, and must be in the 97th percentile of greatest gains. Silver award-winning schools must make AYP for at least two consecutive years, have at least 25 percent of students exceed standards, and must be in the 96th percentile of greatest gains.achievement. Callaway Elementary School won the gold award. Mountville Elementary School and West Side Magnet School both won the silver award.
“These accomplishments show the results of being focused and committed to improvement,” said Dr. Pat Barton, director of Pre-K and elementary curriculum. “I congratulate the students for their success as well as their teachers and principals and the parents who support them.”
Only 46 schools in the state earned the platinum award for greatest gains, 22 earned the gold award, and 22 earned the silver.
