At the Thursday meeting of the Troup County Board of Education,
nine experienced educators were named to fill administrative
positions for the new school year. Karen Cagle has
been named Assistant Superintendent Curriculum & Instruction;
Dr. Jeffrey Parks Turner, Director of
Transportation; Amy Thornton, Principal of
Callaway Elementary School; Jan Franks, Principal
of West Point Elementary School; Debra Brock,
Principal of Mountville Elementary School; Lynn Easterwood,
Instructional Specialist at Unity Elementary; Leigh
Thrailkill, Coordinator of Federal Programs and
Grants, Michelle Nation, Title I Support
Specialist, and Cincrystal S. Poythress, Assistant
Principal of LaGrange High School
Ms. Cagle currently serves as Principal, West
Point Elementary School since 2001. Previously, she was principal
at Long Cane Elementary and Instructional Specialist at Unity
Elementary and Hillcrest Elementary. She began her employment with
Troup County School System in 1988 as a teacher at West Point
Elementary. She holds a B.A. in Elementary Education as well as a
Master of Education in Elementary Education from Auburn University.
She earned her Educational Specialist degree in Educational
Leadership from Troy State University.
Dr. Turner is a graduate of the University of
Georgia where he earned a Master of Education and his Doctorate
degree. He began his education career as an agriculture teacher in
Brunswick, Ga. and later in Watkinsville, Ga. He served as a
Graduate Assistant at UGA for several years before being named
Assistant Principal at Madison County High School in Danielsville,
Ga. from 1996 – 2000. He served as Director of Transportation for
Monroe County Schools for six years. He was then named Director of
Student Services where he worked for three years prior to his
employment with Troup County School System as Assistant Director of
Transportation in September 2009.
Ms. Thornton holds a B.A. from the University of
Georgia; Masters in Educational Leadership/Administration and her
Ed.S Leadership/Administration from State University of West
Georgia. She began her career in 1997 as an English teacher at
Callaway High School and taught there until 2004. She was assigned
to the position of Instructional Specialist at Long Cane Elementary
School from 2004-2010 and most recently served as Instructional
Specialist at Cannon Street Elementary School.
Ms. Franks began her employment with Troup County
School System in 1993 as a teacher at West Point Elementary School.
She transferred to the position of Instructional Specialist at
Mountville Elementary School in 2004 and was later named Principal
in 2008. Ms. Franks holds a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and
Master of Science in Elementary Education from West Georgia
College. She obtained her Educational Specialist degree in
Elementary Education from Troy State University and also earned a
certificate endorsement in Administration and Supervision from Troy
State University.
Ms. Brock has attended Troy State University,
Columbus State University and the University of West Georgia and
holds Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Early Childhood
Education, Middle Grades Language Arts and Social Science. Ms.
Brock began her career in August 1992 and has been the
Instructional Specialist at Hollis Hand Elementary since 2002.
Ms. Easterwood has 16 years of teaching
experience. Ms. Easterwood currently teaches at West Side Magnet
School, and was previously with Alexander City School System. She
holds a B.S. in Early Childhood Education from Auburn University,
Master of Education in Elementary Education from Auburn University
Montgomery. She obtained her Educational Specialist degree in
Educational Leadership from Columbus State University.
Ms. Thrailkill has been with Troup County School
System since 1995 as a teacher at Long Cane Middle, Lee’s Crossing
Middle and Berta Weathersbee, She has served as a Gifted
Facilitator and most recently as Title I Support Specialist. She
earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Middle Grades Education from
LaGrange College and her Masters of Education, Elementary Education
from Troy State University.
Ms. Nation has served as a Troup County Data
Support Specialist since 2009. She was the Graduation Coach at
Troup High School from 2007 to 2009, Special Education Teacher at
Troup High School and Berta Weathersbee from 1995-2007. Ms. Nation
is serving now as adjunct Professor at LaGrange College since 2008
and presently pursuing her Doctor of Education at Valdosta State
University.
Ms. Poythress earned her Master's degree in
Special Education and Educational Leadership from Auburn
University. She has seven years teaching experience in Alabama and
has served on the school level administration team for systemic
accreditation. Ms. Poythress is currently working on her Doctorate
at Auburn University.
Under House Bill 251, a state law enacted in 2009, a parent or legal guardian of a student in Troup County Public Schools may request to transfer the child to another Troup County public school for the upcoming school year.
