THINC instructor heading to WorldSkills competition
THINC College & Career Academy’s Engineering/Gaming Instructor Josh Whittington is one of the best in the world. He recently won the opportunity to participate in the WorldSkills Competition (WSC) in Abu Dhabi this October. As a member of WorldSkills International, SkillsUSA sends team members to compete in the global competition, which spotlights training technologies that exemplify the ultimate standard in skilled workforce preparation. WSC results are one of the benchmarks by which a country’s global economic competitiveness is judged.
During his time in college, Whittington competed at the state level for SkillsUSA, placing first and then going on to the national level competition, in which he came in second. Then in 2016, he received a call from SkillsUSA informing h im that the first-place national winner would be unable to compete, so Whittington and his partner would now move on to the world competition. Along with his teammate, Corey Cleghorn, Whittington will be building an electro-pneumatic circuit and an automated manufacturing work cell to include industrial vision systems, robotics, industry 4.0 and sensor technology.
He says: "This is the same technology I teach at THINC, which helps make sure my skills are up to the test and that I’m up-to-date in the modern-day workforce. I’m currently coaching the next generation of high school Skills students in preparation for the State Level competition."

THINC Heads to World-Renowned Technology Fair in Germany
LAGRANGE, GA – April 18, 2016 – THINC College & Career Academy is the only high school in the world invited to attend the Hannover Messe industrial technology trade fair. THINC Principal Chris Williams and Joe Sumner were selected by Festo Corporation to attend this world conference, with expenses paid.
Held April 25-29 in Hannover, Germany, Hannover Messe has been the world’s most important industrial tradeshow and largest capital goods exhibition for years. It features five leading international trade fairs under one roof, covering all key technologies and core areas of industry, including research and development, industrial automation, IT, industrial supply, production technologies, services, energy and mobility technologies.
Due to THINC’s focus on industrial technology, Festo Corporation, which is a top exhibitor at Hannover Messe, selected representatives from THINC to attend the trade fair. Festo is a leading manufacturer of pneumatic and electromechanical systems, components, and controls for process and industrial automation. For more than 40 years, the company has continuously elevated the state of manufacturing with innovations and optimized motion control solutions that deliver higher performing, more profitable automated manufacturing and processing equipment. Festo is headquartered in Hauppauge, New York.
“We are so honored to be chosen by Festo to attend this event,” says THINC Principal Chris Williams. “This will be a great opportunity for us to explore the latest advancements in industrial technology and bring back innovative ideas and information to our students.”
