Former NFL Player Visits HOPE Academy

HOPE

Former New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Colts football player Howard Stevens, Jr. encouraged the students at HOPE Academy to make changes, work hard, and beat the odds during his visit to the school.

The entire school, over 60 students gathered into the cafeteria before student ambassadors introduced him. When he began speaking at the assembly, he started by stating he wasn’t even supposed to be a football player. As the oldest of eight children, the odds were stacked against him. In the sixth grade, he made up his mind to become a professional football and he worked on it every day from that point on.

He continued, “I went on to become one of the smallest players to play in the NFL during my five years in the league. I believe that neither circumstances nor genetics decide your future. It holds true for each person.” Read the entire story here.
