02-05-19: TCSS Announces Final Three Candidates for Superintendent

Today, after an extensive application, review, and search process, Troup County School System (TCSS) Board of Education has narrowed the list of Superintendent applicants down to three finalists.

  • Margaret ‘Peggy’ Aune, Ed.D. - She is the Associate Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction of Collier County Public Schools in Naples, Florida.
  • Larry E. DiChiara, Ed.D. - He is President of SOY Education Associates, Inc., Consulting Firm in Auburn, Alabama. He was previously a Superintendent in Alabama for 11 years.
  • Brian T. Shumate, Ph.D. - He is currently Superintendent of Medford School District in Medford, Oregon.

The Board began working with McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., an executive recruitment and development firm, in October 2018 to begin the search process. A total of 52 qualified applications from across the nation were received over a two-month period. McPherson & Jacobson consultants reviewed, screened, and conducted extensive background checks on all applicants. They then presented their findings to the Board of Education. From the 52 initial applicants, the Board narrowed the list down to twelve. After more consideration and reviewing submitted video introductions, the Board selected five candidates who were interviewed via video conference.

Now, they are down to the final three. The next steps in the process include in-person interviews with each finalist that will be conducted the week of February 11-15. The Board’s plan is to make a decision and recommend a Superintendent by the end of February.
