Congratulations to Abbie Anderson on being named the Teacher of the Month for September! This is her 4th year of teaching and all 4 of those years have been at Hogansville teaching kindergarten. She is from LaGrange, Ga and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of West Georgia in Carrollton. She is currently working on obtaining her master’s degree in elementary education with a reading endorsement from Columbus State University.

Her favorite part about teaching is witnessing students’ growth from the beginning of the school year to the end of the school year. She also enjoys witnessing acts of kindness from her students and helping her students to develop lifelong skills and good character traits.

Congrats to Dr. Laurie Burkett on being Teacher of the Month for May! This is her 23rd year of teaching, and 22 of those years have been here at Hogansville. She grew up in Pittsburgh and graduated from Clarion University of PA. After moving to GA, she received her masters from Troy State, and years later received her Phd from Capella University.

"I have been married to my husband, Michael, for 18 years. I have two beautiful daughters, Ashtyn and Taylar. I am the fur mama to 3 wonderful Yorkies and 6 crazy cats. I love teaching at HES and experiencing all that a school in a small town has to offer. It is so exciting to see and teach the children of the students I taught years ago. I am so fortunate to work with such a wonderful family at HES. While this year has been a challenge, it’s been encouraging to see how well both the faculty and the students adapted to the new norm."

Congrats to Coach Monica Johnson on being nominated Teacher of the Month for April! This is her first year teaching PE at HES. She graduated from University of West Georgia in May 2020.

"Working at HES and being able to teach PE is a dream come true! I love my school, my coworkers and my students! They all make my job amazing and enjoyable! My goal for my students is that by the time they leave 5th grade, they are competent and confident that anywhere they go where there is a game to play, they will play because I taught them the skills and knowledge needed to play and have fun! I hope that in all things, they at least try their best! I feel with a positive attitude and motivation, my students can accomplish anything! Thank you to my coworkers for this great honor!"Monica

"My husband and I are proud parents of three wonderful sons. Our family has three dogs. My favorite things to do with family includes visiting the Great Wolf arcade or bowling alley, reading fun books, or having a family movie night."
