• Alert:

Quick reminder: Students who attend in-person learning will receive a breakfast and lunch meal before they leave school on Friday afternoon. The meals are for Monday’s virtual learning day so there is less food deficiency throughout the county.

In addition, TCSS buses will be rolling into communities Monday to distribute meals for kids 18 and younger. There will be enough meals for five days. Those receiving meals do not have to be TCSS students. Meals are available to each young person in the community. The bus route delivery sites are available here.

Greenpower Racing

gp2night race

In August 2017 Long Cane Middle School started it's very first GreenpowerUSA F24 racing team. The team was named COUGAR STRONG RACING and was comprised of 15 students from the 6th, 7th, & 8th grade. During the team's very first race they placed 2nd overall from race & presentation points! At the team's second race they placed 1st in the race among 28 teams, and after adding in presentation points, they finished 2nd overall for the event. This secured 8th place in the national points standings. Due to the tremendous success of it's first year CSR added a second team for the 2018-2019 school year. One team modified & improved our existing race car (#000), and the new team (#999) designed & built a new Formula 24 race car. Both teams competed in 7 races for the 18-19 season and our brand new #999 team finished 1st in the national points standings, securing the 2019 National Championship. Our #000 team was right behind them finishing 2nd in the nation. For the 2019-2020 season we had to replace half our teams due to 8th graders moving on to the high school. Building on our past successes we are now at the halfway point of the season and are still sitting in 1st & 2nd place for national & regional points. There are just 3 races left this season and we plan to finish "LCMS COUGAR STRONG".

National Champs 2019

If your student might be interested in an opportunity like this, have them listen out for an announcement in May 2020 about applications for next year's teams. Rising 6-8th grade students will have the opportunity to apply for the class before the end of the current school year by filling out an application, getting teacher recommendations, and going through an interview if they make it to the final round.
