Jeffrey Edel, an artist out of Bryson City, NC, recently donated 75 handmade bookmarks to Berta Weathersbee and West Point Elementary schools. The bookmarks are carved out of wood and embellished with a variety of colorful beads. Edel made the bookmarks to be distributed at the school's discretion and to hopefully motivate students to read a good book. He included this quote from Nancy Campbell with the package of bookmarks, "As well as being a functional tool, a bookmark denotes human effort as decisively as a flagstaff planted on Everest. (It) silently congratulates the conqueror of a world of letters." Both schools are extremely thankful for his kind donation.
