• School Closings/Delays:

Dear Troup County School System Community,

Governor Brian Kemp just issued an Executive Order mandating all schools in Georgia will remain closed for in-person instruction for the remainder of the school year. This includes TCSS.

Please note that current grade calculations will be based upon student mastery of material covered through March 12, 2020 which was the end of the third nine weeks grading period. Student learning will continue after our scheduled Spring Break. We don’t want our kids to lose the valuable knowledge and skills they have gained this school year. Teachers will be contacting their students and working with them to ensure additional opportunities are available for students to demonstrate mastery of previously covered material. More details will be available the week of April 13th.

At this time, we do not have any further updates. We know there are academic milestones and other events that our students and families were looking forward to this year. As updates are available, we will share them.

Over the past several weeks, our commitment to the students and the families of TCSS has been paramount. We will continue this commitment through the closure. Together, we will all get through this.

    Thank you,

Principal's Message

Dear Ethel W. Kight Elementary Community,

We are ready to start a great year of adventures in learning!

Greetings to our families and students! We want to extend to you and your family a very warm welcome to Ethel W. Kight Elementary School. The elementary years are an exciting time when children embark upon new adventures in the world of learning. Each year will provide important transitions and the acquisition of new skills that will enhance each student’s ability to apply learning in many ways.

The Ethel W. Kight faculty and staff is committed to providing a challenging and rigorous curriculum that helps each student progress at a developmentally appropriate rate and provides a safe environment for all students. We are a diverse community of educators, parents, and learners committed to cultivating high student achievement, social responsibility, and lifelong learning.

The school is staffed with energetic, caring and qualified adults who encourage and support all of our students. We encourage family involvement and hope to build educational partnerships with you. By working together, we can help each child achieve an excellent education in a safe and positive environment. Parent involvement plays a critical role in our school’s success. Ways to support and increase your child’s academic success include:

  •  Make attendance a PRIORITY including limiting tardiness and absences
  •  Communicate often with your child’s teachers
  •  Read with your child at least 20 minutes a day
  •  Limit television and social media, encourage outside play
  •  Review the school day with your child

The staff and I look forward to an educationally rewarding school year with you and your children. Please join us and share your talents in the classroom and in other school activities.
