Superintendent's Message

Dear Troup County Community:

Welcome back to the 2019-2020 school year! I am humbled and honored to serve as your new Superintendent in the Troup County School System. After much study and reflection, I have quickly realized that this school system is poised to move forward and become one of the outstanding school systems in the state of Georgia. The Troup County School System is built on great tradition, outstanding community support, commitment of our staff, and a sense of grit and pride in what we do every day. I intend to resurrect our competitive spirit to be one of the best districts in the state! We are fortunate to have great kids, great families, great staff, and great facilities. Now, it is up to us to collectively create instructional coherence, systems of training and support, a strategic set of guiding principles and a sense of belief and hope that our kids can succeed at the highest levels.

One of my fundamental beliefs is that we have to create a school system that adapts to our kids and families, so that each kid can find his/her place in our schools. I am a believer in finding a personalized pathway for every kid that engages each student in the school process where he/she gets to experience school with like-minded peers, surrounded by caring adults, and have not only rigorous and relevant coursework, but also related co-curricular activities and competitions in which to participate.

In the coming year, I want to challenge us all to think about the following guiding principles as we begin our quest:

  1. We must remember that this is a people business!
  2. We must create a Place for Every Kid!
  3. We must create district instructional coherence!
  4. We must use data to evaluate our progress and make decisions!
  5. We must empower our teachers and leaders!
  6. We must create simplistic and strategic initiatives!
  7. We must Communicate, Communicate, Communicate!
  8. We must engage our families in the educational process!
  9. We must become positive ambassadors for our school system!
  10. We must unleash our competitive spirit to be one of the best school systems in Georgia!

I want to thank each and every one of you for what you do for our students each day. Each of you matter in guiding our kids and preparing them for their futures. It is my desire to make the Troup County Schools a top tier school system where there is ‘A Place for Every Kid’ and where all students find connections, meaning, and understanding in their daily school experiences. I am looking forward to the great things ahead as all students are prospering, are prepared for the next phase in their educational careers, and are excited and hopeful for their futures.

I am extremely excited about this school year and look forward to our collective quest to be one of the best school districts in the state of Georgia! Let’s go!
